Questionable Stropharia “Stropharia ambigua” (Psilocybe). Smooth cap slimy when moist & 1-5″ in diameter, 2-6″ tall, delicate white scales on stalks.  Found under conifers, alders & other hardwoods.  Spore prints dark purplish to black.  “Tastes like old leaves”.

Curl-leaf Mountain Mahogany “Cercocarpus ledifolius” Rose Family (Rosaceae).  Perennial, small tree 10-30′ tall, evergreen leaves up to 1.5″ long with rolled edges, flowers are cuplike and greenish-white without petals, the seeds are attached to long white hairy styles.  Blooms in early summer on rocky slopes in Eastern Or. & Wa.

Bachelor’s Button “Centaurea cyanus” Sunflower Family (Asteraceae) Annual, plant 1-3′ tall, flowers blue, pink, purple or white and outer disk flowers are quite showy.  Blooms all summer in meadows or disturbed area in grasslands in Western Or. & Wa. and Cascades and N.E. Or. & S.E. Wa. Non-native.

Heal-all “Prunus vulgaris” Mint Family (Lamiaceae). Perennial, plant 4-18″ tall, flowers purple to violet arranged in a spike that blooms progressively from the base to the apex.  Blooms in summer throughout Or. & Wa.  We have two varieties, one native and the other a somewhat taller variety, from Europe.

Rock Penstemon “Penstemon rupicola”  Snap Dragon Family (Scrophulariaceae).  Perennial, plant 4-6″ tall, leaves blue-green with a whitish cast, flowers deep pink.  Blooms June-July at mid to high elevations in the Cascade Mts of Or & Wa.

This is not a wild flower but it is a wild picture.  This is an up close and personal photo of the intimate parts of a clematis flower.  We normally just see the midpoint between the infinitely large and infinitely small.
