Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens

Hulda Klager began hybridizing lilac in 1905 after receiving a book about Luther Burbank.  She shared her hybrids with friends and neighbors and after her plants were destroyed by a flood in 1948, they helped re-established her garden with cuttings from their plants from her garden.  Her home and lilac garden on four acres are maintained by the Hulda Klager Lilac Society.  Photo:  Woodland, WA 5/12/2011

_MG_2285 - Version 2MG_20851-480x392Snow Geese “Chen caerulescens”  Length 30″, wingnspan 53″ and weight 5.3lbs.  Nests on Arctic tundra and winters in the U.S. in large flocks.  This group was estimated to be about 1,700 birds by refuge personnel.  We were probably within 200 feet from this flock when they lifted off, circled and then landed again on the pond.  Photo:  Summer Lake, near Lakeview, OR 3/15/2012
